The Guide to Packing: What to Bring

Travel documents, cash, ID, passport and credit cards should always be with you when traveling.

Trips and vacations should always be planned well, from the moment you buy the ticket you need to start making the arrangements to ensure your experience will be enjoyable. In a past entry, I covered the subject of packing, explaining the importance of organizing your package appropriately for your trips.

With that topic cleared, there’s another question that comes to mind when packing your things, “what should I take with me on this trip?” All travelers have been through this. Not being able to tell which things to carry, putting things that are not used and end up as extra weight.

Check this list of the things that need to be with you on every single trip you are willing to do, in order of importance:

Personal documents: Perhaps you thought bringing your documents wasn’t that necessary, but these should be mandatory for your trips no matter where you’re headed. Your passport, citizenship (in the case of traveling by land or sea), custody documents or written consent (in the case of traveling with children) and photocopies of every travel document in the event of emergencies.

Belongings: Important things of daily use like money, mobile devices, headphones, cameras, and chargers should be on your list. These are the things you will be using consistently, no matter where you are. Not a single thing should be missing.

Health and personal hygiene: Having the prescriptions for your medicines should be your priority when packing along with a first aid kit, also bring personal hygiene items like your toothbrush, shampoo, sunscreen and hand sanitizer.

Clothes: In this section, you might want to be very organized and choose what you’ll be taking with you. The standard list of clothes to have in mind should be sleepwear, pants, shorts, shoes (comfortable to walk with), underwear, t-shirts, and sunglasses. The type of clothing depends on the destination you’re headed.

Optional: Most of these are for your comfort and to make the trip experience less stressful, and some are a must for certain travelers: books, portable games or consoles, a travel pillow, and blankets.

If you’re unsure about the destination you’re headed, make sure you bring a travel guide or language guides to help you out. Marseille: City of Wonders

As the city's best-known symbol, this basilica has been in constant restorations and changes. It is a historical place with a beautiful view.

As the second largest city in France, Marseille represents one of the most important centers for trading in the entire region, and the reason is mainly that of the commercial trade in the port of the French Republic. The culture of this city is very different from the rest of France, with various historical museums, cinemas, clubs and an opera house.

The influence of art can be noticeable, with a large number of theaters and art galleries that make this city a place of interest for tourism. The Notre-Dame de la Garde is a highly featured place for visitors and is a symbol of the Roman Catholicism in Marseille. This basilica was the replacement of a church with the same name, built in 1214 and restored in the 15th century. The peaceful sight this church offers is one of the main reasons for the increasing number of visitors this basilica has (nearly a million a half tourists).

Another place that draws the attention of most tourists in Marseille is the Château d’If, a fortress created in 1524 that is located one kilometer from the Marseille bay. This fort was planned to serve as a strategic location to defend from sea attacks, and even though it looked healthy enough, it had many weak spots. Afterward, the fortress became a prison for political and religious detainees, all sorted according to their class and wealth.

The prison stopped being used as such in the 19th and opened to the public in 1890. Thanks to Alexandre Dumas, the prison became internationally famous back in that century, as he wrote The Count of Monte Cristo based on this prison.

Marseille’s culture can be perceived as unique: most of its culture is the living example of it: both the basilica and the Château are just a glimpse of the places you can visit. The diversity this city’s got to offer is one of the main reasons the tourism is so profitable there. Temporary Passport Locations in South Florida

Due to significant water damage, the Miami Passport Agency will be closed.

In the beginning of May, the Miami Passport Agency opened up several temporary locations in South Florida to serve passport applicants with travel urgencies, all due to a water pipe burst inside the Omni Building. The Miami Passport Agency is undergoing some reparations, and until then it will be closed for public and people traveling within eight to 20 days have the chance of getting a passport in another location.

If you are one of the cases which are traveling within seven days or less, you will have to apply at another passport agency nearby, and the closest agencies are in Florida and New Orleans. Make preparations for those changes depending on your case and check the traveling dates to avoid any problems.

The location hours and operation days will vary so travelers within 20 days must contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 or 1-888-874-7793 (TTY/TTD). They will assist you and guide into finding the best location for you by recommending new areas or another accepted facilities.

Applicants who are traveling for more than 20 days do not have to worry about this measure as they should just use the regular application procedures on the website. The situation will be solved by that date, and the Miami Passport Agency will have things under control.

There’s nothing to worry about during this period, just follow these instructions, and you’ll have no complications upon arrival. If you haven’t received your passport yet, contact the National Passport Information Center to ask about your application status.

Eventually, the issues will be solved and the Miami Passport Agency will be open to the public once again, as for now, this situation might as well present itself as an opportunity for South Floridians who are looking for a passport.
